Neil, don’t feel bad because I never saw one either and sure would have been puzzled trying to figure it out other than doing what you did. I might have just said the hell with this shit, I’m out of here. LOL

What I’d like to know is… why didn’t it trigger when the OP lifted the lid off?
I’m sure his hand hovered over the lid for a second or two before lifting it.
Most likely the batteries were dead

After thinking about this. Here is the first scenario that came to my mind as this is the main floor only ( Guest ) bathroom.
Guest: where is your powder room?
HO: Just down the hall
Guest: Ummmmm I just laid out a big fatty and i don’t know how to flush the toilet said the blushing guest.
HO: Oh hell not again
