None of those “fit” the serial #, unless I’m not seeing something correctly. Do you know what the age is, based on the link you provided?

I’m having the same issue. The serial number does not “jive” with anything on The building center’s site…

American Standard (Trane)

Model TDC 100C 948 B 3 S/N L255TWS7G

Using Building Center’s site, the unit was manufactured 1925. :shock:

It appears to be about 12-15 years old or so.

Any ANSI dates on tag? Age is usually with 3-4 years of that date…

Ended up finding some info in my old cheat sheets. I’ll post the info later.
Based on the first letter.

  1. 19 yrs. You’re wrong!:wink:

Trane manufactured that unit from 1996-2005. I am assuming the 7 on the end of the model # means 1997. Does this sound correct?

Trane manufactured that unit from 1996-2005. I am assuming the 3 on the end of the model # means 2003.

No. It’s based on the first letter of the serial #.

It’s based on the first letter of the serial #.

TRANE
Trane uses alpha codes in their serial numbers to determine year of manufacture. They started this in 1987 with the letter B and skipped a couple of letters during the years… The first letter of the serial number gives the year of manufacture as follows:

In 2002 they started their serial numbers with the year it was built. In 2002 the first character of the serial number is 2, in 2003, 3 and so on.

Z=2001
R=2000
P=1999
N=1998
M=97
L=96
K=95
J=94
H=93
G=92
F=91
E=90
D=89
C=88
B=87
S=86
Y=85
X=84
W=83
U=82(seventh digit)
T=81(seventh digit)
O, A=80(seventh digit)

Wow, there’s a first time for everything! :wink:

Thanks Joshua.
