Tub Drain Overflow

Have to share this…Just finished te CE on Plumbing overview and forgot to post to the forum.

Short version - Went in a home and was talking to the owner about the tub overflow a few years back and the floors had to be redone, etc…

I asked the owner if any one explored why the tub had over flowed, (besides the forgetting about te water running part) she wasnt sure where I was going so I told her and showed at the same time - as I reached down and unscrewed the the overflow cap, presto - no change-o - the red paper cover was still on the overflow drain.

So I stated the obvious - thats why when you forgot about the water running - your tub over-flowed because at install they ? did not remove this cover to the drain pipe. So the water had no where to go except onto the floor and out the door…

WOW…!!! what a mess that was and what puzzled me was - no one in the line of contractors along the way when repairs were being done thought to look for the cause…hmm.

That probably happens way, way more than we would like to believe.
