I would recommend you find out what these products can and cannot do! You could easily blow $3K on a camera that WILL NOT WORK, whether new or used on E-bay. (The Extech is a great camera but NOT for buildings work!)
I’m NOT trying to sell you anything AND, if you are interested, we offer a distance learning module, Buying an Infrared Camera, that will help you understand the questions you need to ask and the options that are available. Certainly many on this messageboard can also give you good feedback.
Once you get a camera we have other resources that can help you learn to use if properly and interpret the results you get. Others also offer training of various types. All I can tell you is we are not the cheapest but when you are done you will know what you are doing. I don’t mean to be arrogant, and I can tell you that without training, you need to expect you will make mistakes, some of them potentially very costly.
Let me know how I can assist you. This is a great profession and an even greater time to jump in with both feet!
Thermally yours,

I use a Flir EX320. It is great for buildings and electrical. It is a bit on the high end price side, but the BCam from Flir is a good camera for an entry level position. I guess it depends on what your future intentions are.
