U.S. Supreme Court gets it right on thwarting tyranny and gun control.

Figures lie and liars figure.

Also, countries that take away the peoples guns experience an increase in crime.

Try this one…seems this site is a bit more reliable:

or this one:

Your population is 10 times ours. So to adjust the figures up to 300 million for ourselves, we have 1440 firearms murders versus 9369 for the US.

Your link list England as having a higher crime rate than the U.S.

Consider what has happened in England since they banned guns…

In the two years following the 1997 handgun ban, the use of handguns in crime rose by 40 percent, and the upward trend has continued. From April to November 2001, the number of people robbed at gunpoint in London rose 53 percent. Gun crime is just part of an increasingly lawless environment. From 1991 to 1995, crimes against the person in England’s inner cities increased 91 percent. And in the four years from 1997 to 2001, the rate of violent crime more than doubled. Your chances of being mugged in London are now six times greater than in New York. England’s rates of assault, robbery, and burglary are far higher than America’s, and 53 percent of English burglaries occur while occupants are at home, compared with 13 percent in the U.S., where burglars admit to fearing armed homeowners more than the police. In a United Nations study of crime in 18 developed nations published in July, England and Wales led the Western world’s crime league, with nearly 55 crimes per 100 people.

That last line sounds like some of Nick’s spinning getting to your reasoning!!

John:
From the chart in your supplied website:

Compare Finland, Switzerland, Austria, Canada with the US in both homicides and suicides.

% of homicides by guns
Finland: 26.5
Swiss: 43.9
Austria: 35.9
US: 65.3
Canada: 32.4

% of suicides by guns
Finland: 21.2
Swiss: 26.4
Austria: 18.4
US: 60.9
Canada: 28.2

From your supplied info, John, anything stick out in your opinion?

Nick is my brother…

Regarding the numbers… the U.S. is not a place for sissies.

England is an anomoly in the “western” world…it’s becoming lawless for reasons unknown*, not gun bans. It had relative low crime rates in the past when gun ownership was low. Allowing people to have guns will mean even more guns in the hands of criminals…huge numbers of guns are stolen from homes. Remember, every gun was a legal gun until some crook stole and sold it!!!

*Look at their soccer “hooligans” creating riots at home and in other European countries to the point they are trying to ban them. Where else is this happening?

pppssssst… Brian…

Criminals don’t need permission to get a gun. Only law abiding citizens obey gun laws.
Please tell us how criminals give up their guns when a country bans gun ownership?

Total Population of all of those countries: 54,394,045 - % Homicides by gun: 138.7 - % Suicide by gun 94.2 Just a little over 1/6 the population of the U.S. But over double the % of Homicide by gun and about 1 1/2 times Suicide by gun. Brian, when you draw water from the well, do you use a Collander?

I remain

a Socialist who is convinced that he knows what’s best for everyone else and is perfectly willing to have the government make sure that it happens.:shock::roll:

CONGRATULATIONS BRIAN! YOU ARE THE PROUD WINNER OF THE 2008 “RATIONALIZATION AWARD”

You have to love liberals. They can spin anything no matter how ridiculous the result.

Well, Well, Well, Ken!! You’ve shown your math skills!..or your reading skills! Poor customers!!

You cannot add the %'s!!! The original stats were based on # of violent deaths per 100,000 population with subcategories for homicides and suicides by gun. I worked the %'s from those #'s. So you should have averaged the numbers to compare.

% of homicides by guns
Finland: 26.5
Swiss: 43.9
Austria: 35.9
US: 65.3
Canada: 32.4
Average of others: 34.7…about 1/2 (53.1%) the gun deaths of the US

% of suicides by guns
Finland: 21.2
Swiss: 26.4
Austria: 18.4
US: 60.9
Canada: 28.2
Average of others: 23.6…61% less gun suicides than the US

In the US, if there is a gun in the home, the chances of a gun homicide or suicide are higher!!!

Some other facts:

Children and Guns [updated 4/17/07]
In 2004, almost eight young people aged 19 and under were killed a day in gun homicides, suicides and unintentional shootings in the United States. Many more were wounded. The scourge of gun violence frequently attacks the most helpless members of our society - our children.

Domestic Violence and Guns [updated 4/17/07]
Guns and domestic violence make a deadly combination. The presence of a gun in the home makes it** 6 times more likely that an abused woman will be murdered.** (AAAHHHAAA!! Real men!!)

Brian,

Automobiles are responsible for thousands of deaths each year.
I thinks we have to seriously consider banning them for the sake of our children, wives, dogs and cats, etc.

I know some find them useful even enjoyable but they are simply too dangerous to let the general public have access to them.

Perhaps they should be confined to limited areas under the watchful eye of government officials who can assure they are used in a responsible manner.

I think this is they only way we can stop the carnage in our great nations.

Well, George. Where do you think criminals get guns…make them? They either buy them or “straw men” buy for them or they steal them. There was an estimate in one article that 500,000 guns are stolen each year in the States and…that’s not a lot…only 1/4 of 1% of the estimated 192 million guns in private hands!!!

Yahoo!!! The proud way to die!! Could you take your guns and move to the States.

Oh!! BTW, the gent that just got off in Texas from shooting burglars in the back as they ran away, admiitted to a CTV reporter “I sorry about shooting them!!” And he did this when he was in no danger **AND… HE HAD THE POLICE ON THE PHONE TELLING HIM TO GO BACK INSIDE!! **Some justice system when simple burglars are disposable!! What about others that don’t fit in …and cost $$$$ to keep…the insane, the demented aged, repeat DUI offenders…can we get rid of them also??

As one interviewed person said "I wonder if he would have been aquitted if the burglars were not coloured (meaning “white”).

Ban this tool of death next Brian.

That post deserves a real short reply, Ken…BYE!!!
Gotta go to an inspection.

Oh! what about the numbers in my post above…no mention of them!!

Oh I remember the Brady Campaign alright, especially the time, one of the biggest supporters of it, shot a teen down in his yard, with a handgun!

More people, mostly kids again, are killed by drowning in the family back yard pool. Anti gun fanatics always hyperventilate over the evil gun but fail to recognize in comparison to all the other ways and methods to die it is way way down on the list. There are far and above more lives saved due to a gun being present in the course of a crime being commited than those killed. This has been proven more times than I care to go into. If anyone does not want a gun, fine, don’t own one. I recommend you put a sign in your window telling all the criminals that your’s is a gun free home so you can feel good about yourself. But, when some dirt bag is raping your wife or daughter I bet you would be wishing you had a gun to defend your family and property. The law of the land has been settled, we will keep and bear arms and use them if necessary. If anyone does not like it; don’t come here or leave if you are already here, so you won’t have to worry about it. That is the wonderful thing about freedom of the People without too much government. I like being a sheepdog rather than a sheep.

The chart was available to yourself and all others! And my column heading said “% of”. I CONVENIENTLY LEFT OUT NOTHING, JUST PRESENTED THE DATA IN A MORE MEANINGFUL MANNER FOR COMPARISONS. I think my math is correct; when I was averageng “the others”, my totals matched yours. Do you see anything that sticks out?
