main vent required. every building shall have a main vent that is either a vent stack or a stack vent. such vent shall run undiminished in size and as directly as possible from the building drain through to the open air above the roof

there are other issues with it's termination below the window and also it's proximity to the adjacent property.

Gerry,

Exactly...I wrote it up as not being a properly installed vent.

Therefore have a licensed plumber evaluate having a sufficient vent

stack installed through the roof and connected to house plumbing. I only

wish I had a pic of the whole thing going into the basement floor....

where it went from there..who knows..camera stopped working. The house

is on town sewer system. The vent was connected to the bathroom

sink drain.

William,

When you opened that window to check the operation, did you fall on the floor from the smell? Whew![](upload://3okqst6Kp7JJ9AWmVrvXOUslBcW.gif)

Nice catch Bill. Good Job. Down in Wilkes Barre and Scranton I have lots of homes that only have 1 vent out the side of the basement near the sidewalks. Very typical in many of the older style homes built by the coal companies. Not one vent above the basement level. They usually put it near where the main goes underground. Next time I see one I will have to take a picture.

BTW Bill, I will be working down in Wilkes Barre on Monday afternoon. Interested in tagging along? All the rest are out in the Poconos this week and next.

look close you can see the tub on the other side.I took the pic

from the bedroom.![](upload://5heGtXkcWnaSzP7D3u9j4hnoVQR.jpeg)
