Walking a roof slope - how steep?

Hell, even when they are clearly articulated, lol.

(Full disclosure: me guilty sometimes of said “off railing”)

A drone can’t check if this chimney cap is loose on this crumbling brick chimney above this 12:12 metal roof when it’s raining. Will the drone find loose fasteners (maybe) of feel spongy decking? Will it find loose flashing around the chimney?
Do you climb up and inspect it, or do you disclaim it due to height or steepness or weather? There is no wrong answer. Be safe out there.

After looking at this picture down below… (Metal slippery roof + Macho Home inspector standing with no safety harness + Holding chimney cap with one hand and camera with the other), I have two or three things to say… 1) this guy should be a stuntman in Hollywood and not a Home Inspector; 2) he should, right away, rewrite his WILL and include Me and his love ones; 3) Get himself a Drone and take some good HD aerial pictures and recommend further evaluation by a chimney guy and or licensed roofer. I don’t know How much is he getting paid, but $400 don’t even pay for the first order of (Oxicodom) pain killers after trauma surgery…!

You are hired to inspect the WHOLE dwelling in Three hours. You are not the Chimney Contractor or Roof Contractor Inspector. For that job you need to set up a proper scaffolding structure, use adequate safety harnessing and three hours to make a proper evaluation and assessment to recommend adequate repairs. You need to concentrate in “your job” as a Home Inspector. The whole rest of the house is waiting for you, while this fellow is playing roofer…! or stuntman…!

By the way, awesome picture…! Can I use it on my website to impress my Agents?

Agreed. And I find value in many of those side discussions or rabbit trails. This business is as much to do about nuance as about right/wrong, yes/no or black/white. Example, one photograph of a flex gas line could bring in valuable information about a sediment trap or combustion air.

You will not be able to confine anyone responses no matter how much you complain or chastise.
