BX is a trade name for AC cable and not a code defined wiring type. The cable is still Armored Cable or AC cable. The 1940 NECH (oldest codebook I have) states in Chapter 6 under Cable Assemblies:
It also goes on to note that Type AC is made with Steel armor, Wrapping of Craft paper, Rubber Insulation, Braid and Copper Conductor.

That is just timer for the heater. The new fixtures wiring are rated for 90 deg but the homes built before 1985 had wiring rated only for 60 deg. Hiring an electrician to come and look the real problem.
