Wavy shingles on a brand new house

Hello Guys, hope you’re all doing well. I have a question about shingles. What would give shingles a wavy look on one side like this one on a brand new house, my guess is improper installation or installation in cold weather (considering it’s a brand new). And how would you guys report it. Thank you for your input

Wrinkled underlayment.
Probably got rained on before shingles were installed.
I take it you probably didnt put hands on it?

Good, see if you can push them down, if so, its wrinkles. But I’m sure it is.

Here is my narrative, feel free to use:
Several areas of the roof have what appear to be wrinkles in the shingles. This can be caused when the underlayment is not installed flat, or when it gets rained on before the shingles are installed. This can cause the tar paper to wrinkle, and the shingles are then unable to lay flat against the plywood.

This can cause premature aging, and can cause some of the edges of the shingles to stick up at the lower edge, also called “fish-mouthing”. Shingles that are not laying flat will also make them more prone to wind uplift, and moisture intrusion from wind driven rain.

Recommend roofing contractor evaluate and correct as needed, which may require removal and replacement of larger areas.

Thank you so much Daniel

I will add that since its a brand new roof, they could flatten out with a little heat and time, (at least that is what the builder and roofer are going to say), but from my experience, it never does.

Just report what you have found! It is not up to you to decide if that is caused by a wrinkled underlayment, roof trusses or something else. It is up to the builder to make it right as this is a new construction home!

Of course, wanted to know the inputs just for some extra knowledge

Good point, but it wouldnt be from roof trusses, since several of them are at an angle.
