Laser thermometer $200.00

moisture meter $200.00
I don't have the fancy one...bought mine at home depot for $25. works well enough to tell them they have significant moisture in the wood/drywall, etc.

Tiff 8800 (Gas Detector) $200.00
A luxury item. Not totally necessary at startup, but nice to have as an added service. Just make sure you know how to use it and report from it properly.
One item I wish I had in my bag right now is a sure-test electric meter. I could have used it on just about every job I've done....that's my next equipment purchase.

I've never carried a moisture meter. Being a cheapskate, that price is right up my alley. What part of the store is it in? I've never seen one.

Picked up a cheap little Sonin meter at Menards for $25.
Your description was more correct than I think you intended it to be.
"Cheap".
I had one, in fact I had two, neither one was much good and both broke at the same place (that cheap cord and plug, but the meter was not good either. Go here http://www.toolexperts.com/2003.pdf , page 6.
An inspector NEEDS a moisture meter, but not a cheap one. If all you can afford is $50, wait until you can by a more decent one for $150 or so.
Yes, I had one of those Rapidtest ones (had two), but not as a first one. I had a better first one (but no cord and remote tester, just stick into the wall, and I wanted to try a remote plug one, so I did, but those are not HI quality)

OK Blaine
Keep the white cottong gloves for all those ocean front palaces you do. Cant put any finger prints on the walls. Use the paper towels for the garage door test.
