What's this?

This is the basement of a home I did today.

Trying to figure out what the open pipe is for.

The larger pipe is the first floor powder room toilet. The open pipe is in the wall between the bathroom and the hall. It goes up a few feet and then there's an elbow. It does not extend up to the attic.

Any help would be appreciated!

I would hazard a guess as to this being a mistake on the part of the plumber.

Just my usual 12.5 cents

Could be the duct pipe for the vent fan.

That might be a good possibility.

Jeff, was there rough in pipes in the floor below it?

A few feet away were the rough-ins for a future basement bathroom.

My original thought was vent but I hesitated to call it such because it was several feet away and I also did not see a penetration for it while in the attic.

However, my client spoke with the builder and it IS a vent pipe for the bathroom and my only thought is it must join up with one of the vent pipes in the wall before going out through the attic.

Thanks for the help!
