It is in the model on most units and can be listed on the info plate. There is a formula for translating tons to BTU.


Search the HVAC section and you will find it. I don’t have the time now. Do a search and it will come up. icon_cool.gif

Look for the words “maximum input”. It is sometimes tricky to locate among all the small font on the spec sheet. Finding that spec sheet is also tricky. They put that thing on the underside ceiling when you pull the cover off. I end up twisting my neck in some crazed fashion. Wish I had a picture for ya’ll.

Most data plates I see will have a Input BTU and Output BTU. In fact, if you divide the two you will be able to assertain the efficiency of the unit.


For example: 65,000 btu / 75,000 btu = 86% Eff.

Generally, in residential units, the output is between 20K and 25K per burner. A two-burner unit (like the one pictured) can be estimated at 40K to 50K. A five-burner unit can be estimated at 100K to 125K.
