Why is this here

During the attic portion of the inspection today, I saw a really nice dryer vent. It goes down right next to the chimney double walled pipe towards the back of a gas fireplace which is enclosed and I can’t see anything else. The fireplace is the only thing on this wall and the vent ends in the attic making me think it is a fresh air supply for the combustion of the fireplace, however, is this type of vent proper?http://www.nachi.org/bbsystem/usrimages/fireplace.jpg

And Russel, William and Nick, no philisophical why are any of us here answers either.

I plan to tell them to have it looked at by a fireplace professional because the whole thing needs cleaned anyway, I am just trying to figure it out.

Bet your guess is right.

It is an approved by "Uncle Bob" method for providing fresh air for the fireplace.

I doubt that it is an AHJ or manufacturer's approved material for it.

Russel, just busting on you about the inspirational thoughts that are leading to the “why are we here” topic that jumped into my mind. Maybe it didn’t sound as good as when I thought it.

Okay, Dave.

Chris, if you're reading this, we still need our sarcasm icon.

Nick, get Chris to create a sarcasm icon or fire him! Why do we keep him around? What's he good for? (Sarcasm icon here).
