Please see pics. Not expecting an exact date, but an educated guess as to circa year would be great. Breaker and Gas turned off. Seller claims works great, but obviously could not verify (sorry Charlie!). Buyer will be replacing, but was curious on age. Sellers guess was 1960’s. Building built in 1976, and thinks owner at time installed a used unit (as it was in the garage and for heating the garage only).
It appears late 60’s early 70’s Ya don’t know how to turn a lever valve and switch a breaker, light a pilot light are ya a yankee or something like one
I don’t light pilot lights, the seller wouldn’t do it, and he wouldn’t let my client either. It’s not that I can’t, I just won’t. For the one or two times a year this comes up, I am not going to deal with it. Business decision.
Main HVAC wouldn’t produce heat either. Seller told me he turned off the gas 1-1/2 years ago (been vacant) and thats how it would stay until he sold it. I could hear it fire up. I could see the glow from the flame! I verified the servicemans switch was on. I was standing in front of the gas valve, pointing to it turned ‘on’, showing my client the pic of the meter with the valve ‘on’, no shutoff in the building. Seller was being… difficult.
Client told me he would get a HVAC Tech in there, and not to worry about it. He needed to decide how he would replce the garage unit anyway. It wasn’t a deal breaker to him.
Seller claimed he turned them off when it went vacant. Interesting as the main unit was still energized, and no other breakers were off. Why just the one??? He had no answer for me.
