It’s a PF WaterWorks PermaFlow 1-1/4" ABS “P-trap”. It has a mechanism that you can turn to clear clogs. And to add code insult to injury, it comes with a 1-1/2" to 1-1/4" reducer so that you can attach it to a kitchen sink.
Both of the big home improvement box stores carries it.
The last time I saw one of those, there was something jammed in the impeller/flapper, so it wouldn’t turn…but at least I could see it. I thought that was funny.
Not a common item for me.
I guess that you would leave the flap up, and sure, it is a trap with a water seal. However, better thoughts would be to not put a bunch of crap down the drain that will clog things, and then you do not have a mechanism in the middle of the weir that may clog, and you do not need to buy some gizmo that should never be needed. @dthibeault - Please explain why you WANT to install this. Most of the world has made it this far without one, and I want to know what I have been missing out on for my life! I am being serious, but I just do not see the need, but maybe over my head.
It’s a novel idea. Nothing wrong with trying to invent a better mousetrap. I’ve never seen one in the field, so can’t speak on their reliability or functionality. But my biggest concern would be possible leaking at the points where the turn crank penetrates the trap.
