100 vs 200 amp at the drop

I understand the residential single phase consists of 3 wires but when you have to determine the difference of a panel being upgraded to a larger capacity but service drop is not changed - how can you tell? Is it simply the gauge wire at the drop? Are lines from the pole itself always the same size?


Christopher, the line from the pole to the weather head is the POCOs responsibility. They can be smaller because they are in open air to cool.

So, you look at the SEC (Service Entrance Conductors) from the weather head to the meter and to the service disconnect to verify size adequacy of an upgrade. :smile:
