Inspected a 1975 home today that had a metal roof with what appears to be an asphalt granular coating, which is deteriorating. I have never run across this type of coating on a metal roof. Does anyone have any information on who manufactured these, and how the coatings were applied? The client is wondering if it can be recoated, and I’m curious about the history of them.
Look up “stone coated metal roof”. They typically come in panels. I’ve never seen anyone re-coat one, nor do I think it’s possible.
