I was inspecting a large house recently that had two 200 amp load centers. The listing agent insisted that it was a 400 amp service. Is this considered a 400 amp service? Believe it or not, I am able to add and subtract. Thanks for the help!
I’d always list those as 2 @ 200A. I think it’s splitting hairs but to me it’s really not 400A as it’s broken down into two separate services.
Tell her to shove it up her wazoo…
**The safe and proper service amperage available at a property is
set by the smallest of: the service conductors, the main disconnect fuse or switch, or the rated capacity of the electric panel itself. The inspector should consider all three of these and report any inconsistencies among them.
What was the largest disconnect rated at? That would be the the service rating.
Even if there where 3 x 200 amp services, it is not rated 600 amp. The rating is 200 AMP when the disconnect is rated at 200 AMP.
^^^^^ That
It’s a single service with 2-200 amp service disconnects.
Thank you all very much for the clarification. BTW, how do I insert photos in a post?
You can ‘copy’ the photo and ‘paste’ into your post. (one way to do it).
There’s also the old school method of ‘Drag & Drop’!
Thanks guys!
One meter or two?
One meter. Thanks!
JJ’s post is spot on.
Try attaching an image, Robert. You can always delete the posts when things do not work out and try again a few minutes later. Practice makes perfect they say.
OK, thank you very much.
My pleasure, Robert. Glad I could help.
There was only one electric meter. Thank you for asking!
The meter size is the limiting factor to the size of service. On the meter it will say how much power it will allow through. If this helps you explain it to the Realtor.
