OK… If I never offered my service to the barber shop, but
claimed that barber shop was holding me back, would I
not sound silly?

I do not solicit Realtors. They do not hold me back.

Realtors hold you back, and on that we agree.

There you go, it took you long enough. Just like John put together an excellent video for consumers http://www.nachi.org/forum/f58/embed-ir-video-into-your-web-page-29106/ for other members of NACHI to help promote their business, I have worked with NACHI to get this class http://www.nachi.org/missouriapproval2008.htm approved by the state of Missouri, which every NACHI inspector can use to promote their business while providing Realtors with some credits to renew their license. I would be a fool not to use this program in my area to help promote my business. I imagine that A$HI does not help out their members in this way, this is why you are having such a hard time understanding. Helping other members is not a new idea, NACHI members have been doing this form the beginning.

OK… here is your big chance.

Name ONE CMI who is has has lied?

 1. Completing 1,000 fee-paid inspections or hours of inspection-related continuing education (combined) in their lifetime.
 2. Proving they’ve been in the inspection business for at least 3 years.
 3. Abiding by the industry’s toughest Code of Ethics.
 4. Substantially following a Board approved Standards of Practice.
 5. Submitting to a criminal background check.
 6. Applying for Board certification by signing the affidavit in front of a Notary.

I am waiting for your proof.

and…

Please show me where I have made ONE penny from any CMI?

I am waiting for your proof.

and…

Please show me someone who can pass these IR certification
requirements that attends grade school (see below)?

 1. You or your inspection company must own, lease or be renting an infrared camera.
 2. You must be a member in good standing of InterNACHI. Membership requirements are at: http://www.nachi.org/membership.htm
 3. You must have taken InterNACHI’s free, online Green Building Course, taken all its quizzes, and passed its final exam. The Green Building Course is free and open to all at: http://www.nachi.org/greenbuildingcoursereleased2007.htm
 4. You must have taken at least 16 hours (2 days) of continuing education devoted to infrared cameras/thermal imagery or building science (not including the mandatory green building course).
 5. You must sign and return the application/affidavit (below) to InterNACHI.

I am waiting on your proof. Remember, if they take my course, they are tested
at the end of every day and must summit a field assignment, just as they are
required by FLIR-ITC.

and…

BTW… I was certified by FLIR-ITC and met several Level II, and
Level III thermographers and they ALL said they COULD NOT do
a home inspection with an IR camera.

Why did they say that?

Please provide staight answers to the above questions.

Still waiting.

I do not remember doing that, it is strange that I would have voted for Fluke when the inspector I always refer business to uses a BCAM. I must of had caught a Dan Harris virus back then, this would explain why I did feel a great hatred towards successful inspectors and their association that day.

Nobody’s gone to own up to providing false info on a BB.
That would be like asking " How many angles fit on a pin head":twisted:

Mr Braun,

I do agree that weak inspector licensing laws produce weak results
and flood the market with weak inspectors. So 99% of the complaints
I hear about licensing are true… IMHO.

But not all licensing laws are the same. Significant qualifications and
an enforceable SoP does have some positive affects, such as Texas.

Since no law will ever be perfect or make everyone happy, then
I do not pretend Texas is flawless.

For this simple and balanced view, I am called delusional and
a sodomite… but have not heard any reasonable discussion to
change my mind. So I consider the source of these remarks
and rest my case.

I will not press you.

You may back down gracefully.

Good day.

Confused argument I would say. Let’s use numbers.

Say you don’t solicit Realtors and you do 200 inspections a year. All without Realtor referral. OK.

Those 200 inspections a year should still be a viable number regardless of whether you solicit Realtors or not, correct?

So you now solicit Realtors and get 50 referrals. So now you have 250 inspections.

Basic math would say that by NOT soliciting Realtors, you are holding yourself back. And since you do not have to rely on Realtors for your original 200, you can pick and choose whether you do business with a particular agent or not. But a choice to not market to Realtors is also a choice to not get any referrals from them. A choice that in today’s market, where the number of inspections per month are only equal to last years weeks, does not make economic sense.

In my main county, November of 2008 showed a 40.9% decrease in closings over 2007. May was the worst month at 42.1%. With the downturn in Western Washington, inspectors are spreading two or three counties away from their normal service area travelling up to 100+ miles for a normal inspection. You do what you have to do to survive during the lean times. If marketing to Realtors is so distasteful that you would rather close up shop than continue to do business, then that is your choice. I just don’t find it a realistic choice.

Best to all in this coming year.

Good luck to you and thanks for a very good post.

Well at least you admitted you do/post stange things.:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Now if you can explain how you can edcuate realtors without telling them who you are, and with out entering their offices, you will be succesfull :twisted::twisted:

You are confused again. The local Board of Realtors is the best way of educating Realtors, but I have dropped off at offices information about certain types of inspections such as new regulations taking in effect or a new service that no other inspector is offering in my area. I will not speak at individual offices because of the appearance of conflict of interest, same thing for leaving brochures in their lobby. About every Realtor knows me but do not like to use me because of being a “thorough inspector”. The Realtors words not mine. They must see it as a disease. They must be use to their A$HI inspectors they love referring.
Also you do not understand what I mean about the Realtors holding inspectors such as me and John back. How about you reread my posts on this subject.

I always respond to that this way…

“And MY dog is an ASHI associate member”

By chance did you name him Dan?

Molly.
