6 weeks spine fusion update

I made it to 6 weeks, it has been a very hard and painful 6 weeks. Here is a pic of how my back looks today.

Here is my X-rays I had at my 2 week appointment.

Today I got to take off my brace. I still have a long road of recovery ahead of me. I might be released to go back to work in January. Fingers crossed.
I am now completely broke paying the medical bills in excess of $100,000.
I am very grateful for Nick waiving my InterNachi dues. Everything helps. I was going to have to close my account after almost 5 years. He also sent my the entire InterNachi book library. Gave me something to do while I’m down for my months. Nick is a great guy and I’m so grateful to be part of the InterNachi family.
I just know if I ever really can do inspections again, there are lots of crawlspaces here and do many of them you need to be able to bend like a snake to get into. I had a multi level fusion and I’m not sure my spine will bend enough for this. I may have to hang up my hat, and get a cardboard sigh and claim a good street corner for now on.
But time will tell.

Good evening gals and guys.
Have a great thanksgiving.

William, keep your head and spirits up. Maybe think about consulting/teaching new inspectors as opposed to actual inspections. Maybe Nick @gromicko would be willing to start a NACHI based GoFundMe to help with your medical bills. I would be glad to contribute whatever I can.

Stay Strong!!

Best of luck to you William and here’s to a speedy recovery. My dad has a similar operation when he 83 years old and he spent the first 6 weeks of post-op in a rehab center and then went home. He was eventually able to walk pain free. Prior to the surgery he was bed ridden for over a month so for him the result was life changing. Glad to hear that Nick is helping you out.

Stay strong William and if you put your mindset to “I can do this” you will get better a lot quicker and with a little bit of luck, you’ll be able to work again.
I had 3 back surgeries, a fusion, ruptured disk, and nerve calcium cleaning and still managed to go back to work.
I pray for your quick recovery.

Compression fractures to L2 and L3 in a truck accident is what led me into home inspecting.
Wishing you the best with your recovery.

Prayers sent William. I also like a go fund me idea for NACHI , it could then help inspectors when needed.

Prayers to a good recovery. My two cents is i had spinal fusion same as you . Three months down did a lot of walking (5 miles a day) after 3 1/2 weeks. Do the therapy religiously and dont stop. I am on year 8 and never felt better. Good luck

Hey William, That looks so painful. My few small back issues are nothing compared to what you’re dealing with. Glad to hear Nick is helping out and hope to see that GoFundMe soon. Praying for a speedy, pain free recovery!
