AFCI Double Tapped coil wire?

I know neutral wire should not be double tapped on the buss bar….Is there any problems with double tapping the coiled white wire on an AFCI breaker?

There should be NO double LUGGED neutrals at all, especially including GFCI/AFCI breaker neutrals!!

Jeffery nailed it and there are plenty of empty holes available. Lazy sparky did that one.

How far back in time do we go calling out double neutrals under one lug? Seems like every home I inspect from around 2000 and earlier are doubled up. Sometimes, there are no empty slots.

Hasn’t been allowed by NEC for many decades.
I believe back to the ‘Fuse-panel’ era.

Yes this was added to the 2002 NEC {408.21} and if you go back to the listing of panelboards prior to 2002 it was also prohibited for decades by the listing of the neutral bar within the panel.

@jjonas @rmeier2 Thanks! Looks like that deserves an auto comment in my report software cuz I see it A LOT.

I really don’t get into the “not reporting” Things just because they were allowed by code when the home was built. If it can be a problem today, it was a problem before the boys at the code council held their convention and started writing in their books. Code is always playing catch up. calling out a Problem Discovered.
Double tapped Neutrals in my area are very common up till about 2005ish but I still report on them no matter how old the home, however my (canned) statement is worded pointing out “may not have been required by standards when the home was built, however…safety …blah …blah”… This is the same for GFCIs.

Water heaters and seismic straps are another that I do the same thing with. (code required them starting about 2009ish) However a Water Heater dated 1996 does not know it is forbidden to tip over (because code) just as easy as one manufactured and installed in 2021. So still the same problem, can lead to the same damage.
