Angled OCPD at meter

This is not my picture. It was posted on Facebook by a different inspector.

I can’t say I’ve ever seen breakers installed at an angle like this. Clearly the cover is made for it with the angled cutouts. My only thought would be that the service conductors can be installed with less of a bend in them, therefore a shorter conductor can be used and also saves a little space. Any other reasons?

 is at an angle. Maybe related?

Seriously, it looks like it wasn’t secured properly and shifted. Worth calling out IMO…
I wouldn’t spend time on “why” but just stating it’s appears to be not set right and move on

I don’t think so. It looks to me like the openings in the cover are cut at an angle…

It’s fucked up. Don’t beat your brains out.

Weird.

Why would they do that?

It’s not mine. Was posted by another inspector on Facebook. Just nobody had an answer on Facebook.

I agree with you unless for some reason there is actually an inner cover plate behind the flip up cover. It appears to be made that way. Only way to know for sure is to remove the cover.

OP said all three were this way. One commenter said they are all this way in his area.

Facebook?..

Looks OK from here.
It had a good beat, I could dance to it. :cowboy_hat_face:
I’d give it a 7 out of 10.

Should have never been approved or energized. It would scare me to open that disconnect.

Lucky it is someone else’s problem.

I’ve seen them a handful of times at apartments. Not a defect imo

Code violation but you are correct. Probably no big deal.

Do you care to share this specific code?

No. Tired of all the rule comments. Maybe Rob will.

I agree. Can’t see how it could be a defect if the cover is designed for this. But any opinion on the reason? I can only think that it makes the service conductors easier to manage.

Ryan, do you really think that that cover is designed for the cutout? I agree that it probably isn’t a big deal but I convinced that it is a defect in manufacturing only.

If you look at the knockout in the sheet metal, it is clearly at an angle and coincides with the OCPD angle. The black plastic weather cover is straight though.

That said, many people on Facebook have now commented that they see this regularly.

I believe you. I have never seen that before. It definitely was approved. I still don’t think that I would have approved it without manf. specs.
