Just an FYI for the purpose of clarification, Nick,

Garage door opener receptacles are also required to have GFCI protection.

I concur, Kevin.
Why???
Because, garages are considered to be ‘areas where moisture could be present,’ making GFCI outlets, a safety necessity.

PS: I think you forgot to provide minimum/maximum outlet/receptacle height requirement in a garage in the writing for that illustration.

(No fewer than one receptacle shall be installed in each vehicle bay not more than 5.5’ feet above the floor in attached garages,)
(No fewer than one receptacle shall be installed in each vehicle bay. The receptacle shall be at least 18", and not more than 5.5’ feet or 66" inches in height above the floor in attached garages,)
Just my thoughts.

GFCI protection, yes.

GFCI receptacles up on the ceiling, no.

Like this, Larry.

Exactly. For older homes the ceiling GFCI protection may have been code complaint when installed. The readily accessible requirement didn’t enter the NEC until the 2011 code cycle.

At least it is a GFCI receptacle, so the person on the ladder does not get a shock and fall off the ladder. Lol.

Does this apply to both Attached and Detached garages??

Yes it applies to both types.

From the NAHB some states, Ohio for example have exempted garage door openers from needing GFCI protection. Best to know your state before you climb on board with “needed” GFCI protection.

Thanks for pointing that out, Bob, but you’re wrong.

If you would have stated single receptacles for garage door openers located on the garage ceiling are exempt from GFCI requirements, you would have been right. But you didn’t state that.

If the garage door opener receptacle is a duplex or multiple receptacle located on the ceiling, it is required to have GFCI protection.

If the garage door opener receptacle is a singleplex receptacle on the ceiling, it’s not required to have GFCI protection.

I am not wrong. There is simply more to it, that’s why I included the NAHB article. Why you feel a need to correct me is simply a reflection on your insecurities regardless of what I present.

The irony of your statement’s not lost on you, eh Bob.

LOL
