This main waste line was open for about twenty feet.

Most of the cast iron waste lines were failing to some degree.

I couldn’t find anything in the ASTM standards with respect to repairing the cast pipe sections, but I did check with the Department of Homeland Security. Starting in June of this year, they’re going to endorse duct tape as an approved pipe-patching method, but only on pipe traversing crawl spaces, and only on horizontal sections of such pipe.
