Anti-tip brackets are metal clamps designed to prevent freestanding ranges from tipping. They are normally attached to a rear leg of the range or screwed into the wall behind the range, and are included in all installation kits. A unit that is not equipped with these devices may tip over if enough weight is applied to its open door, such as that from a large Thanksgiving turkey, or even a small child. A falling range can crush, scald, or burn anyone caught beneath.

No they are not metal clamps they are Brackets

I beileve the word range should be used in place of the word unit.

I remember reading, sometime back about a “class action” suit against range manufacturers and “anti-tip” devices. I’m looking now to try and find the article. If I do I will post here.

I have noted this Safety concern numerous times over the last few years. One concern I have observed is brackets that are secured to the back wall, but not secured to the floor, especially if the flooring is tile or on a concrete slab. Make sure to verify this.

Here is the note that I put in all my reports for free standing ranges that don’t have the anti-tip brackets.

It recommended to install an “Anti-tip” bracket to the back side of the oven to prevent “tipping” of the unit as a safety feature. While it may seem unlikely, ovens can tip over and cause serious accidents, especially when children are involved. Also, If not already equipped, it is recommended to install a safety latch or locking mechanism to the oven door to prevent children from opening it.
