This is in the kitchen of a home built in 1933. It folds out of the wall and it appears to hold something. It is about 8" wide. I show it open and closed.


The door above this is just a standard cabinet.

It is not a problem but my curiosity is killing me.

It could have also been used as a holder for cans of flour/sugar, etc. The slots were for air. Saw one of these in my grandmothers house.

The last house I owned was a 1910 bungalow and it had one of those. I was told you put your bread in there to keep it cool so it would last longer. Under the mudroom was where they kept the fresh potatoes in the sand to keep them for future use.

I use mine to hold my Ruger Super Redhawk .454 Casull. Keeps it handy for when we have blizzards or flooding rains, ow when my wife or kids get all uppity.


But that's just me.
