Name this item!

Hello all you fantastically old people! I need your wisdom (and age) to help identify this item. Its a wall cavity shelf/storage of some kind. In a home thats about 100 years old. Ive seen them before with metal bars running across it to hold something. Anyone know what its called or purpose was?

What room was it located in Jason?

This one was located inside a bedroom closet.

It’s where you store your magnetic “no-gravity” boots…

Interesting. Dura Steel makes in wall medicine cabinets that you would most likely see in a bathroom with a mirror, of course not located down the wall that close to the floor. Maybe someone put or relocated one for a stash away? Good question and maybe someone else has come across this.

I think its for towels, shirts or socks maybe? I’ve seen others in better condition with a metal bar that runs horizontally across it in a staggered pattern. I tried to google it but to no avail. I’m hoping one of our more senior inspectors will recognize it.

Eating me alive, so I had to keep digging. Found it its an old in-wall shoe holder/rack.

Makes sense now Jason especially with the staggered bar racks. Good research and helpful info if others come across them.

I think Dom was aware of it already and teasing us just for us to rack our brains…

And it only took him 41 minutes between posts! (Hint-Hint)!!

Well I spent 10 minutes and couldn’t find an answer, but it wasn’t my question.

To be fair Jeffrey, its about day 4 or 5. I tried friends on facebook, my parents and other family. I googled many times too, just got lucky this time. :joy:
