Balcony Inspections

Hello,

I’m curious to know how frequent balcony inspections should be done on a 30+year old 3 story apt building in Ontario, or are they mandated at all.

Thanks

If they are required, it sounds like a municipality type requirement/enforcement.

Maybe check there.

I would say depending on the condition, possibly once a year.

Is this for a condo or a house? The reason I ask is many HOAs are responsible to maintain the balcony if it’s a condo.

Hello Gents.
Thanks for responding. This is for a condo, that’s been maintained by a Property Manager. The Condo Board an d Property Manager have just slapped us each with a $4000,00 bill to repair the balconies.
I get the fact that that the Balconies are part of the Common area, but I’m wondering if there’s been any negligence on the part of the Property Manager , Board and or both. I do not know the frequency of our inspections, but I suspect it has not been annually.
Thanks

By requesting the HOA Annual Board Meeting Minutes, for past years, you may get the information you seek.

If the balconies are original they are well past their average life span. IMO
Personally I would be very cautious on getting on such a balcony.

Fantastic suggestion Larry. All of our Meeting minutes and Financials are posted on our Portal and a quick glance at both for the past 5 years have no mention of any balcony inspections.

What’s worse is the fact that I’m on the ground floor…

Thanks again!
Bob

Glad to help.
