Check out the HP 450ci. Small, IFR and bluetooth technology. Runs about 300 bucks at Office Depot but you can find it half that all day on Ebay or elsewhere. I am getting ready to go that route myself. There are others but I havent looked very far beyond the HP.

I prefer the canon i80 over the hp 450. I had the 450 but had a lot of problems with it. The i80 is a little smaller and works great. The only downside is that is has small ink cartridges. I change about every 2-3 days when printing reports. The hp has large ink cartridges and would be great if you can get it to work consistently in the field. I believe that hp is aware of the problems and may have worked to correct them.

I’m searching for a replacement for the HP 450i. Reason: It just takes too long to print reports with color photos in “normal” mode. I bought it for the battery operation and infrared printing. It is nice in the field, just inadequate when clients are there waiting for the report.
Consumer Reports just had an article about printers with the Canon Pixma iP4000 at $140, which has the lowest cost per page of text printing at 3 cents. Chart said it prints 10 ppm of text. Is that good? I think I'll go ahead and get one along with a power inverter.

As much I dislike HP, I have to admit HP 450ci is pretty darn good!
I bought it simply for testing purposes for our inspectors, and to my surprise, IT BLEW MY MIND! There is some tweaking required to achieve the best results.

Let?s get one thing strait;
Faster printer produces much lesser quality print.
My job is to research everything before we make decision to make purchase, I always make right decision.
Now HP 450ci (model we bought) is the best out here.
It prints 9 ppm B/W or 8 ppm Color at 4800 x 1200 DPI (depth per Inch).
At this setting printer uses maximum amount of ink, and produces PERFECT results.
Keep in mind that professional print quality is 200 DPI or more. Everything over is total waste of ink. I suggest to setup printer to print at 96 DPI (normal on-screen resolution). It will save you loads of ink but difference in printout will be minimal.
This printer should be setup like this:
Print Color
Fast Draft 96 dpi
Use 24 lb 96 brightness paper (uncoated)
Battery will last all day long (I test it for 5 reports of 25 pages on average).
It took only about a minute to print 25 page report at these settings.
There it is you can do research yourself or you can trust my expertise, it?s up to you.
Cheers

Danny,
Thanks for the info and sharing your test results. I was going with the HP anyway because I liked everything I had read on it. I don’t care if it takes a couple of extra minutes because they will still get it a lot faster than if I have to mail it to them. Thanks.
