Of course everyone knows that a ton of cooling equals 12000 BTU, 3 tons equals 36000 BTU of cooling.
400 CFM (cubic feet per minute) of airflow per ton of cooling is required to prevent freezing the evaporator coil on most AC systems.
Therefore 3 Tons of cooling x 400 CFM means the blower must deliver 1200 CFM of air.
Most modern 100K BTU furnaces are capable of over 1200 CFM delivery between .2 and .5 external static pressure on any speed except low. 3 or 4 speeds are standard on most furnace made over the last 10-15 years....
