Is there a better term for a blown fuse than “blown fuse?” For some reason using the term “blown” in the report seems off-putting to me. Especially when writing; “Fuse blew during the inspection.” Those not familiar with fuses might picture an explosion of some type.
The only other one I can think of at the moment is “popped fuse.”

Fuse failed under overcurrent condition.

Dave Fetty, CMI:
Fuse failure. .

Fuse failed under overcurrent condition…
I thought of that, but that makes it sound like the fuse was faulty.

Well, something was faulty.

I agree, but it wasn’t the fuse. If a fuse “fails” that tells me it didn’t blow when it should have. Kinda like we don’t say a breaker “failed” when it trips.
I don’t know, just hard to write a good narrative using “blown” lol.

Ryan Uecker:
blown fuse
Open fuse due to short circuit, circuit overload, faulty circuit or faulty OCPD.
Recommend: Reset or replace.
Best I could think of.

You might have already seen this:
You hear a pop and all the power goes out. Everyone says, "Probably a blown fuse," but what does that even mean and what causes it? Find out here.

Expired fuse indicates over current event. Agree, a fuse failure would be when the wires catch fire and the fuse doesn’t blow.

I would use the term blown fuse, and then identify what a blown fuse is. Such as “a blown fuse is…”

There was an overcurrent condition that caused a fuse filament to fail resulting in a de-energized circuit.

That’s how I have it so far. It doesn’t read too bad, but was hoping for something better, lol.

The fuse is kaput! I love it when I can use technical terms like this!

I think blown fuse is fine. It’s a common term easily understood.

You could say the fuse died . I think most people would understand what that means.

Not sure about that Brian. This younger generation isn’t as smart of those before them when it comes to “terminology” that we older ones have used. Most don’t have a clue what a fuse is, much less what a blown one is…

They are only as smart as what we have taught them.
I still think it’s a common term. Fuses are used in cars etc. Besides, you can’t fix stupid, lol.
