Braided cord plugged into tripped GFCI

What is this? The other end is routed through an attic located furnace (hi-eff, I seem to recall).
The GFCI is tripped and will re-trip if reset.

Looks like heat tape, but I have no idea why it’s running into the furnace. If this is a condensing type gas furnace, does the condensate line run in a space that would freeze in the winter?

In the second photo of the end inside the furnace, it shows the cord wrapped around part of the condensate overflow. Yes, this is in an attic and could potentially freeze.

There you go, then. If it’s tripping the GFCI, the heat tape is ‘shot’.

Attic furnaces (not a hot item in my book)
Bet they never change the filter.Did you check it?
