There's no gas flowing through it.

As far as I know, it's nothing more than added support to keep the weight of the meter from dragging down the inlet/outlet pipes.

Trying to use a little logic, perhaps the hole is there to ensure that the pipe is not bypassing the meter?

Without the hole, who would know?

With the hole there's an now an odor, gas and fire trucks moving fast, general mayhem.

Just my thoughts.

Here’s a better view. The lockout is before the regulator.


Jeff, I think you’re right. Looks like some sort of device to ensure no bypass of the meter and to add additional support. Just couln’t figure out why the hole was there?

I think you've got it.

Did an inspection today and they had it mounted on a metal bracket using this hole. Bracket was secured to the house.
