Carrier HVAC AGE Size

Condensor M/N 38CQ027320
S/N S196215

Air Handler M/N 40 AQ024-300BU
S/N N1A05384

Thanks for the help.

Jon

The home was supposedly built in 1981.
The air handler looks origional. While the condensor I’m not sure.
A guess for the size would be 2 ton or 24,000 Btu/Hr. A guess for the age of air handler from the S/N is 22 years old and the condensor is 10 years old.

If any one knows an exact date and size of these units a response would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Check out the first thread in this topic area - it has as complete a run down of Age and Size info as I have seen.

According to that…
**Carrier, Bryant, Payne, Day & Night: **Recently (last 20 years or so) the first four numbers in the serial number represent the week and year. Previously, it was a complex series of letters and single digits. Call 905 672-0860 if you get stuck.

Judging by your S/N info, it appears you may be correct about the unit being original and subject to the complex letter-number coding. Also, it’s not an absolute, but generally there will be info on teh model number that is evenly divisible by 12 (or gives you an even half) and this is often the tonnage (although that is a VERY seat-of-the-pants way to do it!) In general it is a good idea to record the data plate info, and take a photo of it - you would be surprized how many times I gte a better image when the photo is slightly altered and blown up on my PC, allowing me to make out previous illegible info.
