The funny thing is that the photo you have attached is not worth anything because they do not have the measurements and nail length. For all the underwriter cares, this is an area that has a lot of repairs.
Thats true, that pic just shows missed nails
Well I will go with you guys on that. It was my thoughts that it was a visible nailing pattern.
We will see what they say.
That is the only time a nailing pattern is visible. who knows what a metal detector is picking up. t could be shingle nails or staples or 6D’s. at least that shows it was likely re nailed to meet current requirements.
I do not believe marks on a truss prove anything.
Today I was in an attic and I could not find one 8D nail showing in anywhere I could get to. The roofer plans to send an affidavit stating he used 8D nails 6 X 6 on the edge and field. How do we prove it if no nails can be found?
The only one I found appeared to be a old 6D from when the roof was first done but I only found one of those.
I have a hard time believing none of the rest of you get roofs where you cannot find proof of nail size. I look and go wherever I can go.
do you have a zircon scanner mike?
many roofers sign the hvhz affidavit and never renail, sheathing inspection is not required. i think the zircon is quite accurate
Come on… Yes, I have the Zircon and I have yet to find the setting that tells me if it is a 6D or 8D nail, staples or shingle nail all it does is beeps on metal any metal.
When I mark where it beeps I am just marking metal in wood. There is no way to tell what kind of metal.
Just because my ruler was crappy does not mean I do not have most of the proper tools.
What do you do if you get an affidavit but cannot verify the nail size?
How do you verify nail size if you cannot find one?
Ive never not found one, ill spend 1/2 hour looking sometimes
Once you have looked at all the trusses you can get to safely there is not any where else to look.
Hey Mike how do you start a suite anyway?
have the roofer write a letter certifying what he did, or pics… The affidavit is junk, though
Greg,
Beats the hell out of me. I guess you are cracking on my spelling. I do not know about you but every once and a while I do spell something wrong.I just wish someone would put those jerks in their place instead of kissing their a-ses and doing whatever they want.
Dennis,
That is what I told them. I need a letter with his signature and license number on it stating exactly what he did.
The new ruler worked great today but it is tough to get a good picture of it being reflective metal.
Hey Mike
I think 3M still makes a photo spray …clear matte finish.
Art supply store or maybe Lowes
you can change the angle of the ruler or point your headflashlight at it and turn off the flash, you’ll figure it out. and that letter would work for me
Sorry Mike I couldn’t help myself. I have done it myself.
thanks Ed. Do you think that will stop the reflection?
Dennis,
That is what I did. turn off flash and use light. just a bit of a pain.
There is one way to find out…try it
