I’ve been contacted by the ‘inspection & consulting’ division of a corporate relocation company to do an inspection in my area of Cali.
This company wants me to use their digital forms. Seems professional and thorough much like a slightly simplified version of our basic templates.
Has anyone done this before? Seems legit but I’m always nervous of scams or liability issues.
These inspections are common, and I do them infrequently.
Many of these companies are divisions of larger corporations, so typically have little risk.
With that being said, you need to ‘vet’ the company requesting the service to be sure they are legit and not a fly-by-night nobody!
Don’t hesitate to post their company name here for others to review if we can.
It is Fidelity Inspection & Consulting.
Do you still have your standard agreement acknowledged by them? I believe that is the only way the inspection is covered by my insurance policy.
Assuming they are the same company as: Fidelity Residential Solutions - Inspections
I have not heard of, or worked with them.
They do appear to be a legit company, BUT, they come off to me as being a “middle man” company.
That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but may have issues with your Contract as you will likely be required to sign theirs.
Some of those companies will require you to have insurance naming them. I personally refuse to work with those companies, and instruct them that they must cover me on their policies (E&O and GL), unless they are going to guarantee me volume and $$$ to cover my costs for risk and exposure to their properties. Insurance coverage isn’t free, and they need to cover the expense. Having the Insurance discussion with them upfront will disclose to you what type of company they are.
Please share you experience with them, is/when you proceed working with them.
Thanks for the input Jeffrey !!
I have needed to have a ‘General Liability Certificate’ made by my insurance company with the certificate holder as the Builder to do new construction inspections. I’m assuming that is the same sort of thing?
Yes, and the GL isn’t a concern for me, as I carry a high-limit for Commercial/Industrial inspecting anyway.
Some of these companies go crazy with their E&O requirements, and some don’t care at all, thus the need to discuss with them upfront.
Bottom line- make sure YOU are covered from any issues that may arise from THEIR jobs. That is your first priority!
Absolutely !! Thanks Jeffrey.
Fidelity has been around for many years. They are a good company to work with. The form you are using is most likely a version of the ERC. You collect the data and photos and fill out the form. From that they will write the final report. We do relocation and trust management inspections for Fidelity and RAL. Payment is usually in 3-4 weeks or so after the inspection.
Good news…… thanks for the info Scott !!
