Hi Hank,

welcome to the boards, I would just write it up as in need of repair or replacement due to corosion and leakage.

The Bucket under it is a nice touch ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)

Hi to all,

I had Hank send me a better picture of this system, as it is somewhat unusual even in these parts, and unheard of in the warmer climates.

This is a single line steam system

The components that hank was originally asking about are the Low water shut of and auto fill (the black rusty thing) and the top control is the pressure limit switch.

and this is an idea as to what they are doing

I hope this helps

Regards

Gerry

The owners of that heating boiler never maintained the low water cut off.

They never blow down the low water c/o and the dirt pocket.

I would recommend replacement because the float assembly inside may not work as intended and may not shut the boiler down on low water.

And recommend that the pressure control on top of the low water cut off be mounted directly to the boiler, not in the control. The boiler will operate less and still provide steam to heat the home.

Gerry, there is no auto feeded on that low water control.

You aren't kidding, Gerry. I would have written that it had a corroded gitzenblizzen, and the corrosion would cause the thingamabobber to leak if not corrected! ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)
