Could Win For Worst House Ever

My client called me up last night and told me to add a couple of hundred dollars to my fee because this house is insane. A guy was actually living here. Unfinished since 1992, scaffolding for the stucco siding was still up. Clay tiles missing, windows were broken and missing, and exterior doors didn’t close all the way. Water damage and mold throughout. Nothing worked. The owner expects to get 2 million for the place and claimed “It don’t need too much work”
El Cajon CA. Had a nice view and 8 acres but dang, it was disgusting. I’ll spare you of pictures of the bathrooms.

You actually Inspected this place? I would love to see your inspection report. It must be a cash buyer, no lender will give this place a second look. Thank you for sharing.

Incredible. I used to hate inspecting dumps like this but now I don’t mind. It boiled down to an almost complete redo. Take a bunch of pictures, get the hell out of there, and sort them out at home. Nothing worked, no electric meter, he tapped an extension cord into the underground service conductors, only a few outlets were live.

It’s for a company that used to flip houses, now they just hire me to do an inspection, appraise, do a 3D camera thing, then put it into a pool for investors to make bids. They keep me pretty busy and I actually inspect some nice homes for them. But lots of dumps.

It’s a fixer-upper for sure, but as they say, location location location.

It’s been there since 1992 if you can believe that. Sinking into the ground. Tons of rain around here all winter.

But it comes furnished and with a nice boat…

Priced for the property. Someone will raze the house and make a killing on it.

Looks like the place needs to be tested with luminol.

Several times over the years, I’ve turned to a client and said something like, “You don’t really need me for this do you?” or “Why am I here?” or “I can save you some money on this inspection. This place is a disaster! Here’s my trip fee.” Many years ago, I used the “Why am I here?” line with an investor. He said, I going to raze the place, but I always like to know what you think.

I wonder whats under the tarp. Might be an interesting find since it seems to be the only, or one of the only vehicles covered up.

If everything stays, as the Pickers say, it could be a honey hole.

That’s how I felt when I started looking around, but my client was there and said “do the best you can”
Investors want to know what they’re getting onto.

I couldn’t tell what that was, a big GM product of some sort. He had a lot of old pickup trucks down the hill that were rust-free. Someone could make a killing on all the scrap metal that was on the property if they were willing to take the time.

Old Pickup trucks are a hot item.

I definitely wouldn’t scrap them, but then again, unfortunately, it’s not my choice.

in these pictures but I didn’t venture down there, it was no man’s land.
