Ken,

When I find cracks that really are just cosmetic, I always recommend monitoring the area for further seperation.

In the case where I find them in the foundation wall, I recommend they be repaired and monitored. Cracks in the drywall and foundation wall are two different ballgames. The cracks in the basement wall are always more serious because they can cause damage to the foundation, such as, allowing water to seep into the basement, or freeze further damaging the foundation wall.

Hope this helps.

Ken,

Pics would be great to see, in order to give you confirmation on the type of crack. ![](upload://8uhMKq2iUhQT8GJfCpoANBElpX4.gif)

Was it drywall or plaster?
