Girders and beams should have solid bearing with wood or metal supports/shims.


Those look like leveling wedges that I would write up as a concern for repair by a contractor.

Wood wedges are not acceptable practice for beam bearing, I would recommend a Building Contractor to correct it.


The mason Contractor originally built the brick pier to high, and the builder said, well, I will take care of that, take out the hammer drill. Ha. Ha…


I would try to examine the bearing surface for the wood members to make sure that it was mortared in to achieve proper bearing under the wood members. Point bearing is not good or acceptable.
