Damaged neutral

Just curious if anyone has seen this type of damage before? It doesn’t look like mechanical or physical damage

Look like the circuit cable was under a lug but backed away ><1" inch.
Frayed jackets.
Corrosion on buss fasteners.

That tinned copper?

So, over torqued?

Yes

Overtorqued originally, somebody caught it and made the electrician fix it. IMO the wire should have been moved forward and the screw tightened, not backwards.

Don’t know if it was over torqued. Need side by side images to critique that.

Makes sense now after looking back, can see the thread marks in the copper.

Agree!

That’s the only explanation. I have seen this a few times as well

I see this a lot with after build generator additions, they separate the grounds when the new generator panel upstream becomes the service panel and the original service panel becomes a sub-panel. I’ve never seen one moved backwards like that, IMO the damaged wire should be replaced (cut out the damaged end, if the wire is too short add a pigtail). Of course I would leave the repair to sparky and just call out the observation.

It’s hard to say conclusively from a photo, but it looks like mechanical damage to me. The most likely explanation is as Robert Young said, it was probably torqued down too much then backed out. It is not consistent with arcing damage.
