. . . or so says Ryan Routh parroting the liberal media. Not only is Democracy not on the ballot, it’s not even in the running. Our government is a Republic and Alexander Hamilton warned of the dangers of “mob rule” (democracy) in the Federalist papers. Just another liberal lie to stir up the masses (mob).
That is exactly the problem. Both sides, either side, making ridiculous unfounded claims to inflame the other side. It should be unlawful for the media or the politician to make demonstrably false claims. More the pity the public is so gullible, ignorant and fearful they actually cast their vote based on these ludicrous claims.
As much as I hate the lies, I know I do not want your concept enforced in America.
I doubt you have any idea what my “concept” is.
Do you have any knowledge regarding libel laws in this country? You must think lieing by either the media or politicians is acceptable.
I just avoid the noise, and for the most part I let people be as stupid as they want to be. It’s a free country, and if they choose to look like an idiot, who am I to stop them. But every now and then, when someone says something demonstrably stupid or untrue, I fully admit that I will line up my shot and let them have it.
Ok then, I will elect you to become the arbiter of truth and lead all prosecutions moving forward.
But seriously:
No, I do not think it is acceptable. Nor do I think it is acceptable to create a law that can imprison or remove the rights of an individual for the things they say regardless of how outlandish they may be.
Who said that? You obviously have no knowledge of libel laws in this country.
Your approach is certainly best for simple peace of mind. But it avoids a problem that festers and grows behind your back and will allow bad government to strip away your freedoms and your cash.
Brian’s original post fascinates me.
First he aligns hinself with the moral majority. . .
Then asserts something about nothing. Because he doesn’t define my concept no one knows what he knows he doesn’t want.
Two things become possible here; 1. he simply wants people to enjoin him based on his popularity; or 2. he is attempting to force me to defend my “concept” despite not defining it.
The latter is a “straw man” argument because it substitutes the undefined concept for the issue of libel in my second post.
Then define your concept beyond the statement below
Making outlandish claims is not the same as libel. Sheesh Bob, I feel your sentiment about politicians lying. It does not mean I want them or anyone else prosecuted.
Libel is specifically about the defamation of a person. I do not agree with the correlation.
The hardest part would be determining what is a lie, vs misinformation, lack of verification, or simply lack of information.
For instance, sometimes things are called lies later, after new information becomes available. Covid is a good example. Many politicians and medical experts have been called “liars,” even though they were simply working with the info they had at the time.
Just the defamation terminology in this thread should have a better understanding. It would behove many to understand the difference between “libel” and “slander”. Seems some are not sure of the differences…
So, you’re letting some mental midget, who incidentally voted for Trump in 2016, bother you to the point of starting a thread about him?
And this country is a Republic, a Democratic Republic, which is nothing like the communist Republic of China, or the former Union of Soviet Socialists Republic.
But, this is of course common knowledge, and we all know that you know these things Bob.
Well Bob, evidently Trump didn’t get the memo.
But then again…
Wrong again.
So no debates. Got it.
Sounds like fakebook and many other social media platforms.
And here’s where we’re at… internet police harassing people for posting a meme. SMH
Well done citizen!
