I’ve had my Tesla for two months now, driving it to inspections every week except for the week we got 8" of snow so I used my SUV with snow-rated tires.
So far since I got it right before Christmas, I have 6,185 miles and saved $841 vs driving my SUV. That’s the cost I would have spent on gas minus what I spent charging. My house has not burned down yet. Insane performance and tech. My wrap and other upgrades are in process.

Did you get a EV charger port installed at your house as well? Which Tesla did you get?

I installed it myself. Saved $1100.
On a 120 V standard garage outlet you get about 3 to 5 miles of range per hour of charging. But on a 240 V 60 amp breaker you get about 40 miles of range per hour.
Those superchargers are something like 1100 mph plus, which is hard to wrap my head around

We have cheap electricity in East TN with all the hydroelectric dams so EV makes a lot of sense here. 10.4 cents / kW/h

Yeah that’s crazy! Those superchargers are mind boggling. Yeah that’s a good price. We have Nuclear up here in a lot of North East Ohio so we also get a good price on electricity. I have been interested for my next car going electric. Just not sure yet.

If that is true, I’m having a hard time understanding why anyone would wait 40 hours of charging time to drive 200 miles. :man_shrugging:

I think with his, he is getting 40 miles an hour charge. So overnight that should charge the whole car up to a couple hundred mile range. Because he has the upgraded EV charge plug.

Yeah, I got that. But, as I understand it, many will only have EVSE in the 20 amp range installed.

That is true. Because if you don’t do it yourself, it’s expensive to have them installed! However, if your savings are similar to Bert’s, you would pay off that difference pretty quickly. But not everyone gets dirt cheap electricity like he does.

So, again, who can use an EV with 120 volt EVSE? That’s what I’m having a hard time understanding.

Luckily, new technologies are leaking out of the research on recapturing the precious metals from batteries. This should help relieve ourselves from the mining issues.

And what if you live in an apartment. Those people have to go find a big charger to top up. It’s not convenient for them.

Agreed on the home charger. Only way it’s convenient to own an EV. I had my electrician buddy put a 30 amp 240v RV outlet in the driveway, I get about 30 miles of range charged per hour. Cost me about $350 including materials for the charger.

This is my personal vehicle and the work vans gets plenty more miles. But radon pickups, condo inspections, or far away inspections that don’t require a 28 foot ladder I’ll try to take the Tesla.

yeah

250 kW is a lot of juice. 200 miles of range added in 12 minutes is 1200 miles per hour.

It’s amazing.
