Fellow Inspectors,

Today’s inspection brings us this.

This would appear to violate the chimney rules. One fireplace in the basement and one of the first floor, directly above. Any other comments?

The best place I can think of to get an authoritive answer on this is at Dale Feb's relatively new Chimney & Fireplaces Forums.

I think you may have a few little chimneys running around soon. icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for posting that link Erby, I didn't know Dale Feb had started an on-line forum. I'm looking forward to meeting him and sitting through his class at IW in January.

Great link Erby. Thanks.

Masonry chimneys and fireplaces are so common and traditional and so frequently built wrong. The crown on the one you pictured will be cracked like a roadmap and leaking in 10 years, if it is located in a climate with freezing winters.

What type of flue pipe was that it looks like spiral lock ducting from the picture where they using it as a sleeve? From the looks of the roof they are missing the jacks covering the tops wont do much for that leak.
