Dutch hip

I would have probably give hip on the old form.

First measure the total perimeter of the roof. Add up the LF of bottom chords of gable ends. If the bottom chords are greater than 10% it is a non hip.

The additional risk also has to do with the load created at the top endge of the gable roof.

Being from up north and old school I have to tell you that dutch hip roofs up there are also referred to as boston gables. Just wanted to add in that confusion since to me they are non hip to start with by definition if you go with that definition.
