Can anybody throw me some recommendations on where to learn more about the electrical aspect of HI’s? My knowledge is (I feel) too limited in this area and I would like to learn more, before I feel the need to shrug my shoulders and tell a client “I don’t know”.

I would appreciate any source recommended, but free knowledge is always the best knowledge! Thanks.

This is far from true - you get what you pay for. Free is usually nothing more than opinion (as I am offering).

Well… semantics, but - free “knowledge” is best, not free “opinions”! icon_confused.gif I’m not an electrical guru but I can tell the difference (in most cases at least)

In my current home situation the only formal training options available are correspondence/online courses - I purchased and passed one online course (semi-informative but not worth the entrance fee imo) and have ordered the AHIT correspondence course.

For clarification - I am not one of the HI's that will perform 1/2 as* inspections - I know I am not qualified to perform inspections at the moment.. which is why I need/want to increase my knowledge in certain areas.

Thanks for the reply jeff.

Also - I made a similar post in the Education Forum and was supplied with a link containing some great educational tools on this forum and elsewhere.

Thanks Jeff. I sent the email. Appreciate any information you can send my way.

This (among other reasons) is why I joined NACHI before starting up - the information and help gleened from this board and these members is well worth the membership fee.

The material is on its way. I only ask that you do the same when you’re finished with it - send it on to someone that can use it.

I believe the best lessons are hardest learned. i shadowed almost every pro in any residential field to the point of redundency, but if you don’t have the means to do so, your next best thing is going to involve alot of reading, shadowing (other HI’s) and more reading, exams and then some more…etc…etc… In all i’ve personaly spent the last 8 years preparing for the day that i could open my own HI business, now that day has come and i still learn something every time i visit this BB. icon_cool.gif
