Electrical Training Video with Paul Abernathy

According to SOP, **“an inspector shall inspect and determine the rating of the service.” **

Not quite sure how to do that part of the SOP?

No worries… Paul tells us how… in his upcoming training video on NACHI.TV.

PLease include explanation on fuse panels and understanding sizing of them.

Also how to determine installing a GFCI at the beginning of an ungrounded 2 prong outlet circuit. Did I ask that right? Not sure.

This video was not the “Everything” about electrical type video. It covered general things to look for in electrical panels and so on. Their is just not enough time to shoot all the things people want…we are hopefully going to do additional video’s on other aspects of the electrical inspection.

The video we did over the past two days was mainly focused on the electrical panels , sizing a service and noticing defects within a panel wired with defects and a few additional tips.

What we are going to do on many other issues is starting a “Ask” type article base so that you can ask about different topics and i will write an article on it and nick will publish it…that way we can cover alot of questions people have directly wanted asked. however, I think if people are weak on panel defects, not sure how to size a panel, how to properly look into a panel and want to understand some concepts of grounding and bonding of panel enclosures then this video will help them.

We did not have a fuse panel to do this. Actually if you apply the same basic understandings then it will be easy to do this. if you can determine the size of the service conductors, the size of the main fuses if their, rating of the panel enclosure and looking for the weakest link will help you determine the size and in the event you can’t still determine you need to report it as such. As for GFCI receptacles, if you install a GFCI or GFI at the first receptacle it will protect all receptacles downstream. If you replace two prong receptacles with 3 prongs and the GFCI is upstream then all you need to do is label each receptacle as “No ground present” and “GFCI Protected”, these labels usually come with new GFCI receptacles.

Yes.
Paul is coming back to NACHI.TV to do a training video about inspecting the electrical systems and components at commercial properties.

Yes.
It’s in the training video - coming soon… stay tuned.

In the electrical inspection training video, we’ll be incorporating a NEW and AMAZING technology.
It is already being used inside the new online course to become an InterNACHI Certified Stucco and EIFS Inspector.

<< check out the new technology being used by NACHI.TV >>](http://www.nachi.org/forum/f16/stucco-and-eifs-40788/#post529040)

Great to see more in works!

Top 17 players of the Inspector Challenge Game.

Ben when do you predict the release of Paul A’s training video?

Should be before the July 4th holiday.

The electrical panel in the training video is the same one in the Inspector Challenge Game. The game is fun. Free. And you get all the time in the world to study an electrical panel filled with common defects.

After going over the panel (learning to recognize common electrical defects and concerns) you can take a quick test - to see how well you spotted the problems.

It is one of the most UNIQUE learning experiences you’ll ever find.

There’s nothing like it. Try it out.

We’ll be giving out prizes for those who rank at the top.

What’s wrong here? It’s part of the game.

What’s wrong in here? There are at least 4 defects/concerns.
http://www.nachi.org/challenges.htm

– Two neutrals tied under one screw.

– One neutral missing jacket unless thats a ground wire (top wire). If so then the ground should be tied into the ground bar, however from what I understand you can tie grounds on the neutral bar. If the two are seperated they need to be bonded together.

One defect here is actually blatant. Should be screaming out at you’ns.

One of those double tap neutrals has insulation under the lug.

That AFCI breaker is missing a wire.

Got it!

At least 4 concerns/defects observed here.
What are they?
