Only in commercial refrigeration settings where they have a compressor room. Maybe that’s just a fake vent. icon_wink.gif

It just dawned on that they are trying to keep that compressor cool. What will think of next?

More likely they’re trying to keep extracted heat from living space. Nothing wrong w/ that concept.

Yep, a water cooled air conditioner…While I was there, for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what it was as I had never seen a setup like this icon_redface.gif Then I noticed the refrigerant line heading to the furnace and put 2+2 together. The water cooled part I didn’t get until just a little while ago. Then it hit me like a truck…can’t fan cool it…that’s why there’s water lines going to it!!! duh!!

Thank the lord the buyers shut the inspection down before I had to put my stamp of approval on it(other reasons). Sort of humbled me a bit, not knowing what something was or how to inspect it.

Kevin,

It does not matter how long you stay in this business you are going to find that you are still going to run across items, situations that you’ve never seen before. That is why this forum is so good for the HI industry. The collective experience in this association can’t be matched by any HI school or course. Someone, somewhere as seen it, heard of it or knows where to get the information. Ive been doing HI for almost ten years and still see things both good and bad. The one thing I learned early on is …if you don’t know something, don’t try and BS your way around it. The best policy is to be candid and say…I don’t know, but I will try to find out what the hell that thing is. The customer then knows they are dealing with an honest person and one who is willing to admit they don’t know everything, nor are we suppose to. I remind customers that HI is like a general practitioner. When we see things or situations outside the normal we like the good country doctor, refer them to the specialists.

Thank you for sharing this with us. We can all learn something.
