Does anyone have any good tips on removing aluminum siding? I have to remove several pieces to blow insulation in the walls of a two story house and of course the old siding has to be reinstalled.

I’ve used a zip tool made for vinyl siding before with some success. It depended on the thickness of the aluminum how well it worked and doing it on a hot day helped because the metal was expanded.

Best tip I can give you is don’t do the removal on a very windy day. If the wind takes a piece and puts a kink in it it’s replacement time. The zip tool works great once you get the hang of it. This may sound obvious but put the pieces you take off where nobody is going to step on it. And yes I speak from experience with regard to the last tip. The kids came around, started roughhousing…you can guess the rest.

David,

The "zip" tool can be bought for a few bucks at any good siding supply or at Home Depot.
