Would not you install according to JamesHardie warranty instructions?

It “seems” that you would caulk “seams”…but …Hardie states otherwise as you can read in their installation instruction and manuals.

Yes, will crack when set directly on top.

Oof. A whole lot of manufacture research and specifics here. Admirable, but the principle I go with is: caulk where two dissimilar materials meet (e.g. siding and trim) and where the direction changes (e.g. a corner). Applies to most stuff in/on a house (bathroom tile, etc). For siding, WRB should be there for incidental moisture - such as might blow in between non-overlapping siding panels.

Hardie loves vertical caulk. Horizontal? Not so much :slight_smile:
